AT HOME SKINNY GIRL MARGARITA

I like a good cocktail as much as the next gal.  Beer is great too, but sometimes I just want a good old fashion drink that really hits the spot at the end of the day.  The problem is, both beer and cocktails are loaded with calories. I'm sure many of you have heard of Bethenny Frankel's Skinny Girl Margarita drink that is sold in most liquor stores now.  It is basically a pre-made cocktail (it comes in a wine bottle) that is made with low calorie/healthy substitutes like agave nectar.  It is a delicious drink to enjoy at home with the girls with minimal guilt.  The only problem was that it is SO good that I could easily go through the whole thing in one night (which kind of defeats the low-cal point but I figure at least it's better than drinking 4 of the 700+calorie classic margaritas I would otherwise be consuming).  At $19 a bottle, it can get a little pricey and I thought I could come up with something similar but for a fraction of the price.

Heres what you will need:
- Tequila (the blanc tequila is a little better for you)
- Low-calorie pop (I use a lemon-lime flavor)
- Limes or lime concentrate
- Water
- Salt for the rim
- A martini Shaker
- Ice cubes
- Shot Glass
- Friends to enjoy it with you :)

1) add lots of ice to your shaker

2) Squeeze in your lime juice (approximately a 1/2 ounce, depending on your love for limes)
3) Add 2 ounces water
4) shake vigorously until you bruise the ice and mixture becomes frothy (or once your shaker has become almost too cold to hold, it's done)

5) add 1 once of the lemon-lime diet soda to the shaker and lightly swirl and set aside.  Do not shake your drink once you have put your pop in as the carbonation will cause it to explode all over your kitchen, I know from experience...

6) use a lime wedge to moisten the rim of the glass, then run the rim of the glass through the salt

7) pour into your favourite glass, add a garnish if your feeling fancy and enjoy!

The other great thing about this recipe is that it includes water.  It is SO important to stay hydrated when indulging in a few drinks. If you don't, you may regret it the next day.

You might wonder what I do when I go out for dinner or drinks at a restaurant.  Well, I will tell you....
The truth is, occasionally I do cave and have the delicious sugary, full of guilt margarita that is on the menu.  But if I have the strength to keep myself in line,  I will order tequila - in water - on the rocks - with lime wedges.  I squeeze the heck out of the lime wedges and add the whole wedge to the glass.  I always keep little packets of stevia in my purse so I add a little to the drink to give it that margarita sweet kick. I definiely do not recommend this option if you are new to tequila or do not enjoy the taste of it.  But for me, it's a good option while out on the town.  Hope you enjoy!

Let me know if you try it and liked it!

BIRTHDAY OUTFIT

Skirt - So old, I've had it since grade 9 or so...Leather Jacket - Suzy Shier Watch - Michael KorsSunnies - Raybans (green version) Shoes - Gojane.com

My boyfriend thought I was crazy when I told him I wanted to go to Chipotle for my birthday dinner. Why the heck would I want to go to a fast food restaurant when we could go somewhere fancy?!

I love chipotle that much.  It is so freakin' good, I could eat two bowls. I'm not kidding.

After dinner, we headed over to Cupcakes and ordered an obseen number of cupcakes for two people.  We ended up eating four of them.  I had another for breakfast the next morning and the last one is calling my name from the counter at the moment...

Later in the evening we went out to a downtown restaurant for a few celebratory drinks, including tequila of course - my favourite.

It was a great birthday.  Can't wait to see what this year has in store....

SUMMER FAVORITES - Neutrogena, Jergens, NYX, Spring Shoes and President's Choice!

A few months ago I thought it would be a good idea to switch up my facial cleansing routine.  Bad idea.  I have hypersensitive skin that does not react well to change. I have always known this  but I guess I was just in need of a switch up.  Long story short, my skin broke out like crazy (I felt like I was in high school again - it was that bad).  I ended up eliminating one product at time to try to isolate which product my skin wasn't agreeing with.  After about a month of trail and error, I concluded - they all broke me out.  So, I got rid of everything I was using, and went with the basics.  This Acne Prone wash by Neutrogena had my skin clear again within one week.  It was a god sent.

I have also been loving crisp white nail polish this summer.  I can't say that this Joe Fresh brand from Superstore is the best of quality.  I certainly wouldn't buy it again.  Most every time I wore it, it chipped within a day.  However, I'll keep using it until it's empty and it's time to try a new one.

I should really do a separate post on this product.  It is amazing.
For years I had been using a gradual self tanner by Nivea.  It was awesome - easy to use, gave a streak-free glow, it was cheap and I loved the smell of it.  So when the time for short shorts and bikinis came around this year, I was in full panic (ok, maybe exaggerating a little there...) when I couldn't find my beloved self tanner ANYWHERE - I looked for weeks! I ended up trying both the Jergens gradual tan lotion as well as this foam version.  The lotion version was just that, a lotion.  It literally gave zero colour, even after many days of application.
The foam version however, worked like a dream.  I love it for a few reasons : 1) it isn't orange 2) it drys within 1 minute of putting it on so I can use it even when I'm in a rush and need to get dressed right away 3) I love the smell and 4) it's relatively fool proof. If you wondering what it looks like on, check out some of my recent outfit posts, I'm wearing it in all the pictures I don't look like a sickly ghost :)

NXY Mega Shine Lipgloss in Dolly Pink
I can't lie, I have only had this product for a few weeks now but I already know I love it.  The swatch looks scary, but when used sparingly it gives the perfect muted hot pink lip.  The consistency is a bit sticky but I actually prefer that.  I find it stays on a lot longer and I don't have to re-apply as often.  Check out THIS and THIS post to see the colour on my lips.

I happened to stumble across these boots on a random shopping day at the beginning of the summer.  They were the last ones there and were on clearance for $40.  It was kind of meant to be.  I feel like my most loved pieces are discovered  when I'm not looking for anything in particular.  Funny how that happens.
I've worn them with so many outfits this summer.  From cutoffs to girly dresses.  They add the perfect edge to every outfit.  Everyone should own at least one pair of studded/embellished booties. And if you can get them at a rock bottom price, even better!

This fizzy mango drink from Presidents Choice has been a favourite of both mine and my boyfriends all summer long.  It keeps my hands out of the snacks, gives me that sweet kick I'm always craving and the carbonation gives me the feeling of a full belly.  I've also been using it as a drink mix to add flavor to my homemade margaritas.  And when I said "I've been using it", I really mean by boyfriend.  He is my professional at-home margarita maker.

Frozen red seedless grapes.  HOLY SMOKES.  So addicting.  I simiply give them a rinse, throw them into a big ziplock bag and let them freeze over night.  They are the perfect sugar kick that is oh-so refreshing on a hot summers day.

What have you been loving this summer? Let me know in the comments below!

A-LINE DRESS - EASY DAY TO NIGHT, NO CHANGE ROOM REQUIRED OUTFIT . PART 2

Dress - H&M (recent) Belt - Vintage Shoes - Gojane.com Watch - Michael Kors Necklace - Urban Behaviour Sunnies - Raybans

Welcome to part 2 of this outfit! If you saw my last post, you saw a very similar outfit that I wore the same day while shopping downtown.  Since I was meeting my boyfriend for a date later that night, I wanted to avoid going back home to change by doing a little outfit planning.  To transform the last outfit into this one, I simply took off my green t-shirt, added heels and a black belt to accentuate my waist.  I threw my sandals and t-shirt into my purse and easy as that, I was ready to hit the town!

What do you think?!

A-LINE DRESS -- EASY DAY TO NIGHT, NO CHANGE ROOM REQUIRED OUTFIT . PART 1

Dress - H&M (recent) T-Shirt - Zara Necklace - Urban Behaviour Bag - Spring Shoes Shoes - Gojane.com Sunnies - Raybans

Since my boyfriend works in downtown Vancouver, we often plan date nights downtown so I can simply meet him there when he is done work.  The downside is that I am often tempted to head down before he is off work to do a little shopping beforehand.  Since I'd be a bit over done walking around in my "date night attire" while shopping,  I came up with an outfit that I could easily transition after my afternoon shopping and before I met up with my boyfriend.  I wanted it to be effortless and something that didn't exactly require a change room.  This is the casual shopping look I came up with.  I felt comfy and stylish, and was quickly able to get myself date night ready in a matter of minutes! Stay tuned to see the tweaks I made to this outfit (right in this alley!) for date night!

Did you catch the lemon sized bruise on my leg in these pictures?  (You can see it in my last post as well).  It was a souvenir from my camping trip last weekend.  Not sure how it came about but boy, is it ugly.  Not ugly enough to get me into jeans yet though.  I'll be in my cutoffs and skirts until the fall weather officially kicks in.

CLASSIC SUMMER DRESS

Dress - Brandy Melville Boots - Spring Shoes Bag - Spring Shoes Sunnies - Raybans

As you can probably tell by the burn on my chest, I had an awesome time on my weekend away camping.  It was full of pool time, good food, good friends and lots of drinks.  Back to reality now.

I spent my last day off at the gym (I have a lot of chocolate, chips and margaritas to burn off!!), the grocery store and in my kitchen meal prepping for my set.  That's my typical "last day off" routine.  I'm a little obsessive about my meal prep. Because I am out of the house for about 14 hours each shift, I have to plan and make a breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks to last me through the day.  I much prefer to take the time planning a few healthy meals to keep me on track during the week and not have to indulge in cafeteria goodies for days.  Hospitals don't exactly  serve healthy or inexpensive food options! So, the coffee bar is as far as I delve into the cafeteria.  Saves both my waistline and bank account from troubles.

Do you meal prep? What are some of your favourite travel friendly meals to take with you on the go?
