I am so behind on posts right now.  With Ken being home, vlogging the whole thing (Watch my vlogs HERE) and the hustle and bustle of the holidays, blogging has been pushed to the side.  I'll be playing catch up over the next week before I go back to work.

This outfit reminds me of the wardrobe troubles I had while my hair was blue. Although I loved the blue hair, it made it much more difficult to get dressed each day.  I couldn't wear my favourite all black outfits because it just looked too gothic, and everything else seemed to come off looking a little punk.  Plaid was definitely off the table while my hair was blue.

I found the best way to get around those two problems, was to stick with neutrals (as seen here) or do my best to add a boho vibe to my outfits (See a boho example HERE).  I much prefer the 'boho blue' to the 'punk blue' hair look.

How about you?

Throwing it back to the blue hair.

About a week after I dyed my hair blue, I had a work Christmas party to go to.  I wasn't too keen on sporting the blue hair at a work function so I thought I'd try to wash it out by the time the party rolled around....

I think it's just because my hair is so blonde and it takes to dye quite well but I couldn't get the stuff out!!! The boxes says it lasts 2 shampoos, but I scrubbed and scrubbed and still (weeks later!) can't get the last little bit of it out.  Mind you, it did fade a TON in the first few washes, and I actually liked the way it faded, but because I had this work event to attend, I was a little worried.

Long story short, I went to the party with slightly blue hair, and it actually turned out to be a good conversation starter.

Now that it's pretty well gone and I'm looking back on these pictures, I really miss the intense blue! I have a ton of the product leftover so I think I'll be going blue again soon - after all the work functions are said and done.

HOLIDAY VLOGGING

If you've read my blog lately, you might know that my boyfriend moved to the UK in September to do a Masters degree. Postgraduate study is something he has considered for years and it has finally happened. As much as it sucks having him live on the other side of the world, absence certainly does make the heart grow fonder.  All the little things that annoy you really don't matter anymore and all you want is for them to be home with you again.  Thank god for Skype and high speed internet. What an amazing invention.

Luckily, he was able to come home for the holidays.  Since I have the worst memory in the world, I decided to vlog bits and pieces of our time together so that I'd have something to look back on when he leaves again.  I love looking back on old vlogs and being able to remember the details of the day.

Unfortunately, Ken isn't thrilled with the idea of a camera in his face but, I'll take what I can get. Below I've linked the first two vlogs...

The first day was the day before he arrived, you can watch that here:

He arrived on the second day. Watch my excitement here:

I hope they are entertaining! Keep an eye out on my youtube channel and subscribe HERE so you can see what I upload the vlog from the weekend!

MAYBELLINE NAIL POLISH PICKS

black fall nail polish

Recently Alex from HRHCOLLECTION on youtube caught my attention when she mentioned this Black nail polish by Maybelline in the colour Onyx Rush (I even love the name!).  Originally she had bought a black polish by Chanel but wasn't pleased with the finish and that it had chipped in a day.  She recommend this very inexpensive alternative and I had to try it.  The finish is actually really nice.  No sparkle, glossy, it layers really well (I have two coats on here) and has yet to chip - two days later. (Disclaimer: I did put a coat of Sally Hansen's Gel coat on top for added shine and chip resistance)

At first I wasn't sure because I swatched it onto one nail in the shop and it looked grey/brown.  I bought it anyways because I Alex has the best taste and certainly has an eye for quality.  So glad I did, because the second coat went on beautifully. The perfect purely black nail for fall for only a few dollars!

I also picked up the jewel toned green called Walk in the Park because they were on sale that day.  Can't wait to try it!

Shawl - Vintage (Part of a Indian Saree)

This shawl I scored as a bit of a 2 for 1.  It also came with a skirt as the other half of the saree.  Usually when things come as a set, I like one piece and not the other.  This time I really loved both pieces and went home feeling like the best vintage shopper ever! I'm sure you'll be seeing the skirt in a post in the near future, it's gorgeous!!!

This is actually one of two sarees that I own.  They are just so beautiful, intricate and interesting! My local vintage shop if full of them because of the population in my area so I always make sure to check out that section when I visit the shop.  I'd highly recommend taking a peek into sections of vintage shops that you might not think to look at.  The international and even the mens sections are two spots I always make sure to poke around in.

MY VERSION OF THE 90's LIP

90's lip trend

As much as I love that intense brown 90's lip on Kylie Jenner, I just can't pull it off.  Even if I could, I  wouldn't feel like myself sporting it, at least not yet.  Slowly but surely, I've been testing the waters and have officially discovered a colour that I think gives me the perfect hint of the 90's trend.  It's from Annabelle and the colour is called Demur.  The colour on the tube is a bit deceiving. It looks much more pink than it actually is on the lips but never the less, I love it.

If you're curious about the trend, this is a very wearable and inexpensive option to pick up next time your at the drugstore!

CLASSIC TRENCH COAT

I think I've bought a classic trench in almost every colour this season.  Except black.  I'm on the hunt for the perfect black vintage trench coat and I've certainly made it my mission.  I think the people at my local vintage stop think I'm crazy because I'm there almost every other day to see if anything new has come out.  That's the thing with vintage shopping, you have to go often to score the good stuff!! Especially if there is someone like me that is trolling the stores for all the goodies!

Happy weekend!
(not quite the weekend for me, I'm working evening shift this weekend but wishing you the best!)

HOW TO LAYER NECKLACES

If your anything like me, you can't bare the thought of spending $50+ on a big bib necklace or only being able to wear that expensive, fancy necklace to special occasions.  To help you get the most out of your wardrobe, I've put together a few ways you can incorporate things you might already have in your closet into that "casual glam" or "bib necklace" look. Hope you Enjoy!

{add a glitzy necklace to a casual graphic tee to tone down the "dressy" factor of the necklace}

how to create a bib necklace

{Layer several inexpensive necklaces to create a "bib necklace" effect.  Here I layered three necklaces I've had for years.  All from Forever21.}

{keep an all gold look interesting by varying the length of each piece.  I also chose to pick pieces that varied in texture to give it a little added interest. These necklaces were from forever21 and a vintage shop}

I hope these tips were helpful!

This outfit is so comfy.  Everything is super stretchy and is literally as comfy as wearing sweat pants all day.

This skirt really caught my eye in my local vintage shop.  It has a slight metallic shimmer through it that reminded me a lot of something from the 90's.  I also fell in love with the awkward ankle length of the skirt and the fact that it has a more fitted shaped than most midi skirts.  Its a nice switch from my usual A-line midi's.

The shearling coat.  It's everywhere right now and is certainly a must have for fall.  They are so cozy and not only that, so practical for the chilly months, unlike most fashion.

I love this one in particular because it fits slightly oversized without making me look like a football player.  I can easily add a few layers under it for added warmth or wear it on its own with a t-shirt, like I did here.  I wore this outfit while camping a few weekends ago, before the blue hair came about, obviously, haha.  I was so glad I brought it along to cozy up with next to the campfire!

Here are some of my shearling coat picks for this fall:
