CLASSIC TRENCH COAT

I think I've bought a classic trench in almost every colour this season.  Except black.  I'm on the hunt for the perfect black vintage trench coat and I've certainly made it my mission.  I think the people at my local vintage stop think I'm crazy because I'm there almost every other day to see if anything new has come out.  That's the thing with vintage shopping, you have to go often to score the good stuff!! Especially if there is someone like me that is trolling the stores for all the goodies!

Happy weekend!
(not quite the weekend for me, I'm working evening shift this weekend but wishing you the best!)

HOW TO LAYER NECKLACES

If your anything like me, you can't bare the thought of spending $50+ on a big bib necklace or only being able to wear that expensive, fancy necklace to special occasions.  To help you get the most out of your wardrobe, I've put together a few ways you can incorporate things you might already have in your closet into that "casual glam" or "bib necklace" look. Hope you Enjoy!

{add a glitzy necklace to a casual graphic tee to tone down the "dressy" factor of the necklace}

{Layer several inexpensive necklaces to create a "bib necklace" effect.  Here I layered three necklaces I've had for years.  All from Forever21.}

{keep an all gold look interesting by varying the length of each piece.  I also chose to pick pieces that varied in texture to give it a little added interest. These necklaces were from forever21 and a vintage shop}

I hope these tips were helpful!

This outfit is so comfy.  Everything is super stretchy and is literally as comfy as wearing sweat pants all day.

This skirt really caught my eye in my local vintage shop.  It has a slight metallic shimmer through it that reminded me a lot of something from the 90's.  I also fell in love with the awkward ankle length of the skirt and the fact that it has a more fitted shaped than most midi skirts.  Its a nice switch from my usual A-line midi's.

The shearling coat.  It's everywhere right now and is certainly a must have for fall.  They are so cozy and not only that, so practical for the chilly months, unlike most fashion.

I love this one in particular because it fits slightly oversized without making me look like a football player.  I can easily add a few layers under it for added warmth or wear it on its own with a t-shirt, like I did here.  I wore this outfit while camping a few weekends ago, before the blue hair came about, obviously, haha.  I was so glad I brought it along to cozy up with next to the campfire!

Here are some of my shearling coat picks for this fall:

Clearly, still on the all black train.  It's just so chic and easy.  You can't go wrong.

In case you missed it, I also did a fall lookbook on Youtube that had an all black theme.  You can see that video HERE.  Everytime I create a youtube video, I'm always so shocked that all those little clips I film can actually come together to form a video! I'm so terrible with technology that anything I'm able to produce on this computer of mine is a miracle!

A NEW DO - BLUE OMBRE

garnier colour styler

blonde to blue hair

So I made a little change.  I now have blue hair. At least for a few days...

This was all so out of character for me.  Usually I'm as plain jane as they come, hardly ever break a rule or make big changes.  For whatever reason I was compelled to buy the Garnier colour styler hair dye last week and made the leap last night.  I was just craving a not-so permanent change up.  I made sure to go with something that would wash out in a few days just incase I really hated it. I'm sure I'll be sick of it pretty quickly, but for now I'm in love!!! The boyfriend wasn't so keen.  His first reaction was "OMG! what have you done! What happened to my sweet little Andi!" haha.  He was glad to know it'll wash out over the next week.

The product itself was really easy to use and very inexpensive.  I got it at my local pharmacy for about $10 and I think I'll get about 4 application out of it.  I had my sister paint it on for me, as I didn't really trust myself doing it.  All she did was put a first drops of the dye into her gloved hands, rub it between her hands and lightly pepper it through my hair.  We did it very gradually and eventually ended up with this colour.  I didn't wash it.  Just wrapped it in a towel, slept on it and woke up with this result! It turned out more green/blue than the true blue it showed on the package but I much prefer to the result I got to the package colour.  I also went with more a blended dip dye look rather than a highlights look.  I feel like the highlight or chunky pieces look can come off looking bit like cheap clip in hair pieces.

What do you think?! I'm already kind of excited to try the other colours from the line...

FALL HAT

Time to brush the dust off all my hats.  I did wear a few hats through the summer but always found them to be a little warm for those hot summer days.  Now that they've been reintroduced into my wardrobe, I can't stop wearing them! They just add a little something extra to any outfit with the added bonus of keeping your head warm!
I've shopped a few fall hat options from around the web that are linked above. I particularly love THIS emerald coloured one and THIS tartan and leather option. I'll definitely be adding a few more hats to my wardrobe as the cooler months approach.

Happy shopping!

LETS TALK HAIR - DRUGSTORE HAIR PRODUCTS

how to create loose curls

I am by no means a haircare expert.  I read a lot of magazines, watch a lot of youtube videos and visit a lot of blogs.  The majority of my hair care routine stems from a mix of all of these places over the years.

For the most part, my hair routine has remained unchanged for many years.  I'm very much a creature of habit and tend to stick to what I know works (I also hate wasting money on products that I use only a few times. So when I buy something, I typically use it to the end before I buy something new).

Having said that, I thought I'd share a few of my favourite, holy grail, drugstore hair products and how I like to use them.
If my hair isn't in a top knot, it's usually curled.  Typically I will curl my hair once (sometimes twice) a week and try to stretch those curls to last a few days.  As a operating room nurse, I am required to wear a hat all day so I'm really not all that picky about how my hair looks during the week.  The weekend is a different story.
In order to avoid having to wash my hair after work on Fridays before I head out for the evening, I tend to wash and curl my hair on a Thursday night.  By washing my hair late in the week, I am usually able to "recycle" my curls through the weekend so I can spend my days off having fun and not styling my hair.  I've used THIS Infiniti curler for years now.  I don't use the clip and just wrap my hair around the shaft to create a wave curl rather than a curly sue type curl, which I much prefer.

the best drugstore hair products

I've used this hairspray since my high school days (let me tell you, that's a long time!). I lightly spray each section of hair before I curl it to give my very fine hair some texture for the curl to hold on to.  My curls will literally last days longer when I use hairspray before curling.  I also used it at the every end, after I've broken all the curls apart.  I lift a few sections and spray upwards (into the curls) to give it more volume and to give it more of a messy, undone look.
how to make my curls last longer

Again, a product I've used for years.  Although lately I've been testing out a few other drugstore options, but I still come back to this one.  However, I would say it's no good for brunettes because it does leave a white cast.  However, for blondes,  I find it is somewhat of an advantage because it actually makes my hair look a tiny bit lighter in colour and helps to camouflage my roots.

I also love how it gives my hair that second day "grit".  When I first wash my hair, it's so slippery, flat and limp.  Second or third day hair is always the best.  This product gives me second day hair on day one, which I love.  The only thing I dislike about this product is that it does make my scalp dry.  So I try to use it sparingly and substitute with other dry shampoo when I need to.

I was thinking of doing a post (or video!?) on the dry shampoos I've tried, which I like, dislike and why.  Let me know if that would be something worth doing!

Hope you enjoyed this! I thought it would be fun to do something different from a fashion post. Let me know what you think and if you've tried any of these products!
