favourite video

Once and a while I do a "Favourites" video on my youtube channel but often I find it so hard not making it a 15 minute video of things I love! So I thought I'd set my self a number and cap it off at 5 here on the blog. So, here we go, rounding up 5 things I've been loving lately...

best gingham

1. Gingham

I know I'm a little out of season here (it feels like it became fall over night here!) but I still holding onto summer and soaking up every last bit of the heat.  Summer feelings makes me crave gingham. I went a little gingham crazy with off the shoulder dresses, mini dresses, rompers and bikinis all summer long. I love them in all shapes a colours and I'll be wearing them as long as the weather holds out!

2. Cliniderm SPF

This is one of the products that I feel I need to scream about from the roof tops! I discovered it when I need an SPF to take with me to my bachelorette party in Las Vegas (See photos from that here, here and here). I wanted something that I could put on in the morning under some light "pool day" makeup that wouldn't make me greasy, breakout or look heavy. I also didn't want a spray. Had to be a lotion.

I found this at my local Shoppers drug mart and it worked miracles! I went on super smooth, dried on the skin in seconds and felt like I had nothing on at all. I put it on once in the morning, applied my daytime makeup and then was even able to salvage my day makeup into evening makeup most days. I love it! Plus it provides SPF 45 - which is pretty darn good. If you don't already have a good SPF in your makeup, you should consider adding this to your repertoire!

best drugstore blush

This one has been in my daily makeup routine for months now. Specifically the blush from this contour palatte. I originally bought it because I was looking to branch out my bronzer collection. The bronzer didn't work out for me, but the I've become obsessed with the blush! It's the perfect soft petal pink that would work with most skin tones. It does have a little bit of shimmer to it, but I don't find it to be chunky or disco ball sparkly. It just gives a bit of a glow versus a matte finish which I always find to be more flattering on the skin. I also really like the highlighter in this palatte but I find I reach for my Champagne Pop much more.

As much as I loved my classic Black Nikes (See here), those old gals were getting old and tired. In fact, my toes were starting to break through the mesh. Ek! So the hunt for a new pair of gym comfy shoes but still stylish enough to wear with outfits began. I really thought I was going to end up with this pair or this pair but when I had trouble actually getting my hands on them to see if I liked the fit, I popped into Aldo to see their options. I instantly fell in love with the colour of these ones. They are kind of a cement grey/beige colour that is so neutral that they go with everything! They are also SUPER comfy (that walking on marshmallows kind of feeling) and have a elongated shape to them which is always super flattering. I really tempted to get the pink version now...

5. Aussie 3 Minute Miracle

Another item that I've had in my cupboard for years and years and just recently brought it back out again. As a blonde, I have to tone my hair with an intense purple shampoo about once a week (sometimes once every 2 weeks) and although it keeps my blonde from becoming yellow, it is very harsh and drying. Enter the 3 minute miracle! This stuff I slather all over the lower 2/3 of my hair in the shower, put it into a low bun and let it work its magic for a few minutes. It leaves my hair so super silky its crazy! And the best part is that it cost just a few bucks! No harm in giving it a shot!

If you're more of a video person, I also filmed a short video going through each item. Just click the play button below to see the whole thing! You can also subscribe to my youtube channel HERE to make sure you don't miss any future videos :)

Something very different than my usual fashion based post today! I wasn't originally intending to share these photos but loved the way the turned out so much, I had to share! Plus I feel like I'm creating a portfolio for my friends that might want a volunteer photographer to do a shoot for them :) I LOVE doing it! Next I'll be photographing my best friend and her fiancĂ© for their engagement shoot - it's so exciting that our friends trust me and my amateur skills to produce something for them!

But anyways, this post is all about our good friend Maria and her brand spankin' new 6 week old baby, Abby. So cute! I was thrilled to be over at their place to take a few snaps of them in their natural habitat - her nursery! It was super easy to photograph because this nursery is seriously instagramable, as they say. I love the gender neutral greys and simplicity of it - exactly what I would want for myself on day :)

The mobile was a DIY from Pinterest. I LOVE it! So clean and simple! And I love that it was made by hand - can't beat that :)

Omg those cheeks - almost as big as mine - haha! Kidding. I always joke with Ken about my huge cheeks.

I know this likely isn't what you expected to see here on blog today, but I hope you enjoyed it anyways! I love these photos so much, I couldn't not share them! I hope Steve and Maria love them as much as I do and one day, Abby will appreciate them and forgive us for keep her from her milk a few minutes :)

Eeeeek, can't believe I finally am sharing this video with you! It took me forever to put together and Ken and I watched it probably 100 times before we played it at our wedding reception but we are so happy with how it came together. Definitely my favourite video we have done to date!

I hope you enjoy! It's a special one!

Shorts - Forever21 (old)
Sweater - Vintage
Sunglasses - H&M
Shoes - Converse (last seen here)

A very simple post here today. One of the many outfits my mom and sister helped me shoot while away at our family cabin last week. Thank you mom and sis!

Yes, even when we are "camping" I still have some fun with my clothes. Nothing fancy (clearly) but I don't like to be in total scrubs the whole time. Having said that, I do often change into my pj's and Ugg boots most evenings when we are at the cabin during the Winter, but when it's hot out, I'm usually in something like this in the evening.

I bought these shorts years and years ago when the One Teaspoon shorts were all the rage. I couldn't  pull the trigger on them, so I settled for this much more affordable option from Forever21. This loose fit is always much more flattering on me than something that strangles my thighs. I have another pair that I made from Ken's old jeans that fit similarly that I love as well. I do still have a few pairs of "daisy duke" style shorts, but I'm always most comfortable in something like this pair.

If you're having trouble sourcing your loose fitting shorts (it seems like everything out there is tight tight tight!), I would recommend sifting through either your husbands closet or your local thrift shop for jeans you can DIY and chop up yourself. It only takes a few cuts, you can customize them to your liking, and would cost next to nothing!

We had to make sure to keep this monkey close to us while we were down by the river. My mom said there had been a few bear and cougar sightings along the waters edge recently, so we were there with bear mace in hand and eyes wide open. Luckily, there was no run ins with bears that day and Chico wasn't an appetite for some hungry animal.

Nothing like the great outdoors! I'm definitely a city girl at heart (I can't be without my shopping and electronics!) but I grew up camping, so this girl knows how to get a little muddy at times.  I always jump at the chance to head down to the cabin for a few nights of fresh air and campfires.

If you're wondering why all the photos in this post look so hazy, it's because wild fires are running rampant in the area at the moment - all the way up across British Columbia as well. So while I was hoping for a few clear days while up here, there was nothing but thick smoke.

Denim Skirt - Forever21 (Similar)
Shoes - Aldo
Sunglasses  - H&M
Necklace - Forever21

I'm at our home away from home this week! Some call it camping, some call it glamping. Either way, it's our family cabin in the states. I suppose when you have wifi, a pool, and full kitchen - it's a stretch to call it camping, haha.

I've been working on a big post that will go through all my outfits I've put together while here, but I thought I'd share just my pool ensemble for now. I'll warn you, all the outfits that will be in that post are VERY simple - nothing too over the top - but I thought it would be fun to show what I really wear when I'm at the cabin "glamping" for a few days. That post should be coming in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for it :)

gingham bathing suit

Ok, back to this outfit. I LOVE this bikini I found on Shein.com. If you're a frequent visitor of my blog, you would know I shop there all the time! They have tons of trendy things for next to nothing, so there is no hard feelings when I have to donate things when they are no longer trendy in a few months. This bikini is one of those things. I think the whole suit was about $16 - certainly not breaking the bank!

how to look stylish at the beach

As much as I love the print, I love the shape of the top just as much. The straight lines and tube top shape reminds me of something I would wear in the 90's. It doesn't have any padding in the chest, but since I haven't got much to work with in that department anyways, it doesn't bother me. So if you are big busted, I wouldn't recommend this one. It doesn't have any kind of straps or ability to add them easily. The bottoms are also quite cheeky (hence why I am wearing a skirt in these photos!) - so if you aren't into that, I would pass on this one.

beach day

As I mentioned in one of my Hawaii posts, adding an A-line skirt that is fitted at the waist is my go-to look for a pool or beach day. It's an easy one piece outfit that covers most of the goods to get you to beach. I also love the casual element denim adds to any outfit.

I can't count how many times I've worn this skirt (and a few others I own that are similar). You can see them styled a few different ways here (probably my favourite), here, here, and here.
