Yes! There is still lots more Hawaii coming your way! As much as I love looking back on these photos, it also makes me so sad! I still can’t get over how much we loved this little piece of paradise and CAN NOT wait to go back again some day.
When we first started our research on where to go in Hawaii, almost everyone told us that Oahu wouldn’t be for us. The common breakdown we heard was that Kauai was romantic and jungle-like and Oahu was city shopping and nightlife. After digging a little deeper on our own, we quickly realized that most people were referring to Honolulu, which we now know is very city-like and mostly shopping. We definitely weren’t looking for the type of vacation that would be filled with shopping. We can do that at home anytime. However, for the most part, flights and accommodation are cheaper in Oahu, so we didn’t wanted to give up too quickly. We ended up finding a last mint deal for a 5 night stay in Turtle Bay, which is on the most northern tip of the Island. The area is called The North Shore and is very famous for surfing, food trucks and lots of public beaches.
If you’ve even seen the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall, you would be familiar with Turtle Bay Resort. The movie takes place on it. For a good reason, the resort is gorgeous! And not only that but it is no where near the city of Honolulu. It takes about an hour to drive there through thick jungle (picture driving through Jurassic Park). We were so happy with our decision to explore Oahu. It really is the most beautiful place if you are looking for an adventurous beach vacation in Hawaii.
Although Turtle Bay is way at the top of the island, if you have a car, you have access to dozens of nearby beaches. From the resort, you can take off down the highway either way and find yourself a private beach within a few minutes.
On this particular day Ken was on the hunt for a few waves (as he usually is). I was still battling my heat rash, so all I was looking for a was a little shade 🙂 We ended up on this little patch of sand called Castles Beach. Most beaches on the island have a spot to rent surf boards, so Ken grabbed one of those and hit the water. I made myself comfy on the sand and cracked open a beer.
This bikini was a last minute buy from one of my favourite inexpensive sites called Shein.com. Bikini’s are always hard to buy online but I loved this one so much that I went for it. The top fit me almost perfectly but the bottoms were a flop. They were made of a really thick scuba material that just wasn’t comfortable. But for the price, I was happy just getting use out of the top. I wore the bottoms from another bikini I had and it worked out just fine!
Adding a high waist skirt over my bikini has been my go-to beach look for years now. It’s so easy to only have to add the skirt and keeps me covered enough that I feel comfortable walking around in it. This one from Forever21 comes in two colours but I love the light wash for a beach look. It’s kind of my version of a bathing suit coverup. Plus, it’s Hawaii! People go to the grocery shop in their bathing suits! I love it!
A little side braid is another beach day go-to. I love keeping my hair up and out of my face when I’m in the sand and water but always prefer to have a little hair down. I always feel bald with my hair up, haha. Still working on that one. I’m also still so in love with my ray bans, as well as a dupe pair that I have (much like these ones from H&M). They look good on everyone! A classic you can’t go wrong with. I recently picked up a dupe for the club master version that I love almost as much as my aviators.
You can see the post on those sunglasses HERE
Holy smokes, I can’t wait to get back to this little piece of heaven. We’ve only been home a few weeks and I’m already trying to figure out a way back there. Keep in mind, spring STILL hasn’t shown up here in Vancouver. Other than a few days of sunshine, we’ve been in nothing but rain since we got home – how depressing!
