ONE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO IN AMSTERDAM

things to do in amsterdam

If you follow along on Instagram (@aandreaclare) or my youtube channel, you might already know that this is one of our favourite things to do since moving to Amsterdam. We were lucky that we moved here during the summer so we really got into the swing of it while we had glorious weather everyday.

amsterdam canals

romantic date night

One of my FAVOURITE things about being in Amsterdam has been canal picnics. They are so simple, inexpensive and just lovely! Of course the scenery doesn’t hurt one bit. There are tons of these green benches all along the canals so there is no shortage of seats. Once and a while we have to walk a few extra streets down to find a spot to ourselves but for the most part, theres always a spot.

Back at home in Vancouver people love to head down to the beach and find a log to lean on but public drinking is really not allowed. Of course, people do it, and it isn’t a problem if it’s desecrate but it always feels like your doing something horrible and you can’t really relax and enjoy yourself – at least that’s how I feel. But it’s so different here in Amsterdam (and in Europe in general). People don’t think twice about having a glass of wine or a beer with lunch and a bottle of wine with dinner. You can always see people on their patios or on the canal enjoying a tasty beverage. Personally, this is something I can really get on a board with 🙂

So most weekends, we love to throw a few wine glasses into our tote bag, pop into our local shop for some bread, cheese and a bottle of wine, find ourselves a canal bench and just chill for a few hours. On days Ken works late we will often just grab a few single beers and sit out there for just a beer. No phones, no TV, just people watching, waving at the boats floating by and talking to the ducks 🙂 It kind of feels like we are going out to a patio or a pub for drinks or dinner, but without the price tag of eating/drinking out 🙂 It’s the best! On this particular day we grabbed our go-to 3 for 5 deal of olives, hummus and cheese, a baguette and a bottle of rose to split. Doesn’t get much better than that!

affordable fall outfit ideas

I posted a picture from this post on Instagram a few days ago and WHOA! People went crazy for this dress! And I don’t blame them – it’s a goodie. You can purchase it HERE.

I love the easy breeze style of it, the dusty pink colour and the comfort factor. So comfy! It feels little sexy (because of the slit up the front) but cute at the same time. Even though it has short sleeves, I plan to wear it into the Fall by adding my cable knit sweater (seen here in the background of the pictures). I use the tie around the waist of the dress to tuck the bottom of the sweater up or I wear it draped over my shoulders. It’s also affordable, so I can’t recommend it enough 🙂
